AC Milan and Inter Milan will go head-to-head in a crucial Milan derby at San Siro in the Serie A on Sunday.
Both Milan sides occupy the top two spots on the Serie A standings, with Inter in first place – a point above their rivals.
AC Milan gave Inter the chance to move to the top of the table after falling to a 2-0 defeat at Spezia last weekend and the Nerazzurri took the opportunity with a fine 3-1 victory over Lazio last Sunday, thanks to a brace from Romelu Lukaku and a Lautaro Martinez strike.
AC Milan made a very bright start to the season and led the way for most of it, but losses to Juventus and Atalanta in January and last weekend’s defeat at Spezia have seen them relinquish their position at the top. They were far from impressive, but can they bounce back on Sunday?
When both sides met in the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia in January, Inter claimed a 2–1 win. They will now fancy their chances of securing back-to-back wins against their rivals and extending their lead at the top of the league table.
AC Milan: Ismael Bennacer and Brahim Diaz are sidelined with hamstring injuries. Brahim may be available next week, but Bennacer won’t be back until mid-March.
Inter Milan: Arturo Vidal is a doubt for the match, while Stefano Sensi is out with a muscle injury.
Momentum doesn’t seem to be on AC Milan’s side. The Rossoneri, after losing to Spezia, played a 2-2 draw with 10-man FK Crvena zvevda in the Europa League in midweek. Inter, meanwhile, are in fine fettle and have won five of their last six encounters against AC Milan.
Antoni Conte’s men are playing with good pace and attacking power. They should be good enough to defeat AC Milan and stretch their lead at the top of the table.
